Wilmington drivers, mark your calendars and plan your detours – the City's Public Works Department has dropped this week's laundry list of street disruptions as various crews get cracking on construction and maintenance. With projects running tomorrow through Friday, July 26, courtesy of City hands, DelDOT, Delmarva Power, and private contractors, your daily commute might just take a slightly scenic turn.
The City of Wilmington has a real-time map for those who like their updates digital and on-the-fly, updated daily so you can track adjustments to this weekly schedule, because sometimes Mother Nature or some other wrench gets thrown in the works, Public Works Commissioner Kelly Williams said, "every effort is made to compile the most accurate list each week of street projects that could affect your travel in the City the following week." the unpredictable elements such as weather disruptions are always lurking.
Here's a heads up for the Downtown crowd: The 2024 Downtown Farmers Market at Rodney Square isn't going anywhere but up and down on the calendar. Set to continue through October 30, this local staple will stretch its legs every Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., come rain or high water.
Just remember, when Wednesday rolls in, so does the closure of Market Street between 10th and 11th streets, as the area shifts gears from road to market from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., so if you're driving, biking, or even scootering you'll need to navigate around the block, the closure supports local farmers and artisans but also means you've got to give your GPS a workout.
