Winter Park's beloved plant store The Heavy has permanently closed its doors after six years in business. The announcement came through an Instagram post on July 12, signaling the end of an era for the establishment housed in the former Lombardi’s Seafood building on Harmon Avenue, as reported by WFTV.
The Heavy, while wrapping up its business at one location, has already sown seeds for a future venture known as Garden Tiger. Located on Alden Road, the new endeavor aims to integrate home goods, a love for flora, and an engaging space for social gatherings complete with music and brunch, according to Orlando Weekly.
Reflecting on the close-knit connections at The Heavy, the social media farewell thanked the spectrum of individuals who passed through its doors—from family and friends to staff and patrons alike. Shifting the focus to their new project.
In a statement, reported by Orlando Weekly, owner Jennifer Crotty said, "It’s time to bring all of our concepts under one roof." To facilitate this transition, a sale offering plants from The Heavy takes place, introducing patrons of Garden Tiger to their heritage inventory over the weekend. Moved, the store plans to host a "big sale" on Saturday and Sunday, July 20-21, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., inviting old and new customers to a garden fittingly set behind the business at 1900 Alden Road.
