Police in the East Liberty neighborhood of Pittsburgh are currently investigating a shooting that left one woman injured on the evening of July 7th. Pittsburgh Police from Zone 5 responded to a ShotSpotter alert indicating seven rounds fired on the 6200 block of Broad Street shortly after 10 p.m., as calls reporting gunfire peppered in while officers were still en route, according to the City of Pittsburgh.
Upon arrival, the police found an adult female victim at the back of a residence, suffering from three gunshot wounds to her leg despite her injuries, she remained conscious and communicative with both officers and medical responders, according to the police's statement. Pittsburgh EMS Medic 11 quickly transported the victim to a nearby hospital where she was listed in stable condition, her identity and details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting are not yet clear as detectives from the Violent Crime Unit are still piecing together the incident.
The scene was swarmed not just by patrol cars and ambulances, but by the Mobile Crime Unit as well, who arrived to process evidence including the recovered shell casings. This forensic analysis serves as a crucial piece in understanding the events leading up to the shooting and potentially identifying those responsible. The collected evidence is being examined as part of the ongoing investigation into the shooting.
