In the early hours of last Saturday, Worcester Police arrested an 18-year-old man, William Tchoubah, following a vehicular pursuit and subsequent search through the neighborhoods of Worcester, as reported by the Worcester Police Department. During a routine check for speeding and invalid inspection stickers, officers encountered a group of males, one of whom fled the scene, exhibiting behavior suggestive of an armed individual.
After a brief chase, aided by community reports, the suspect was found hiding in a stairwell on Ashmont Street. Tchoubah, apprehended by Worcester police, was confirmed to have active warrants for armed assault to murder and various other firearm charges related to an incident on Esther Street. A search, prompted by concerns that the suspect may have discarded a weapon in an area frequented by children, led to the discovery of a Glock pistol at a nearby residence with the homeowners' consent. The firearm was concealed between cement and a fence and was retrieved for processing by the Crime Scene Unit.
The litany of charges facing Tchoubah is extensive, ranging from two warrants to firearm offenses including possession of a large capacity firearm, firearm carry without a license loaded, and possession of ammunition without an FID Card, among others. According to the Worcester Police Department, the suspect is also charged with breaking and entering at night, disturbing the peace, disorderly conduct, and trespassing.
This arrest underscores the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces in managing gun-related crime within the city. The discovery of the gun near family residences particularly highlights the dangers that permeate civilian lives due to such criminal activities, an aspect that often underscores the narrative of community safety initiatives.
