Calling all veterans who have a taste for hunting and the outdoors: Wright County Parks & Recreation, along with a coalition of supportive organizations, is prepping to deliver an exclusive duck hunting experience for disabled veterans. Slated for Oct. 5, the event is a highly anticipated opportunity set in the scenic Robert Ney Regional Park.
This isn't your run-of-the-mill hunting trip, the Disabled Veterans Duck Hunt is a testament to what can happen when multiple organizations pull together to support a worthy cause. Initially, a Pheasants Forever and Wright County Parks and Recreation joint effort has grown with an influx of community groups like the 4 Points Retriever Club, Hasty-Silver Creek Sportsmen’s Club, and the North American Hunting Retriever Association. Not to mention Wright County Veterans Services, which are all pitching in.
"We are proud to offer this event to people that have sacrificed so much of themselves to this country," a statement from the Wright County Parks & Recreation website reads.
Veterans interested in taking aim at this chance need to act promptly—applications have to be in by Monday, Sept. 16. Post-application, hunters will be chosen via a lottery system, with notifications going out by 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20.. Question-laden or not, you can reach out to Wright County Veterans Services at (763) 682-7325 or, jet over to their website for the online application and additional information.
