Residents and community stakeholders along State Route 141 will soon have their chance to weigh in on a planned highway improvement scheduled to break ground in two years. In an effort to share details and foster dialogue, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is preparing to host an open house event this Thursday, where they will unveil a series of "Complete Streets" design options aimed at enhancing the stretch of road connecting Bingen to White Salmon.
The open house will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. at Skyline Health, located at 211 Northeast Skyline Drive in White Salmon, WA. Those attending can expect to directly engage with the WSDOT project design team. Participants are encouraged to come prepared to briefly share their current road usage habits and to offer constructive suggestions on how to potentially better the forthcoming infrastructure overhaul.
For those who cannot attend in person, a digital lifeline extends the conversation beyond the physical meeting. WSDOT has also organized an online survey set to go live concurrently with the open house. Here, community members will have until Thursday, Aug. 8, to submit their comments on how they use SR 141, what improvements they desire, and inquire about various aspects of the project's completion.
The survey is aimed to be a comprehensive tool that will inclusively gather perspectives from the community, especially from those who might not have the opportunity to physically attend. The Complete Streets approach considers improvements for all users, including pedestrians and cyclists, not simply motorists. Those interested can visit the project website to access the survey and further information on the project's trajectory.
With the paving project set to commence in 2026, this period of discourse opens up the crucial channels for public input and expert analysis to converge, hopefully leading to a safer and more comfortable transit experience for all who travel the nearly 2-mile stretch of SR 141 in Klickitat County.
