U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers made a significant drug seizure at the Progreso Port of Entry recently, intercepting nearly 200 pounds of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $1.8 million.

The substantial seizure took place on August 22 at the Progreso International Bridge by a 27-year-old male U.S. citizen who was referred by officers for a secondary inspection. During this process, they employed a non-intrusive inspection system and CBP canines to thoroughly examine the vehicle. "Our frontline CBP officers remain vigilant on narcotic interdiction. This seizure exemplifies their dedication to CBP’s border security mission and their commitment to keeping dangerous drugs from coming into the country and infiltrating our community’s streets," said Port Director Walter Weaver, Progreso/Donna Port of Entry, in a statement obtained by CBP's newsroom.

According to CBP, upon further examination, officers discovered that the vehicle concealed 108 packages loaded with approximately 196 pounds of alleged methamphetamine. The street value of the seized narcotics is pegged at $1,804,208. Following the discovery of the narcotics, CBP seized both the drugs and the vehicle. Homeland Security Investigations special agents took the driver into custody and have initiated a criminal investigation into the matter.
