A tragic incident unfolded yesterday when a 14-year-old boy was struck and killed by a vehicle on State Highway 288. The chase commenced approximately at 9:50 p.m. after Pearland police initiated a pursuit of a vehicle traveling northbound. The teen lost control, crashed into the concrete barrier, and subsequently fled on foot across the highway, as reported by FOX26 Houston.
The Pearland Police Department indicated that after the accident, the young driver attempted to hastily cross the southbound lanes where he was eventually hit. This information also comes from a statement obtained by Click2Houston, which adds that police lost him at that point. Emergency dispatchers soon received reports of a pedestrian struck by a car in the southbound lanes. Upon arrival, officers found the injured teenager, who was the same individual involved in the initial crash.
Efforts to save the teen included CPR performed by Pearland police officers at the scene. He was then transported to Ben Taub Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The identity of the boy has not been released, and it remains unclear why the police were chasing him in the first place.
The investigation into the tragic series of events is ongoing, and Pearland Police are urging anyone who might have witnessed the incident or possess additional information to come forward. Individuals with such information are encouraged to reach out to Pearland Police Department at 281-997-4100,.
