A pedestrian incident occurred late Saturday night near Harvard, leaving a 19-year-old man in a critical condition. The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office has been investigating the situation that unfolded on US Route 14 in an unincorporated area of Harvard.
According to the McHenry County Sheriff's Office, the young man was hit by a 2013 Nissan Pathfinder around 11:48 p.m., after he entered the roadway near the 10700 block of Route 14. The vehicle, which was headed northbound, struck the pedestrian who was suspected to be under the influence at the time of, the crash.
The 19-year-old sustained critical injuries and was consequently airlifted to Javon Bea Hospital – Riverside for treatment. The driver and the passenger of the Nissan Pathfinder were reportedly uninjured in the crash, as detailed by the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.
Emergency services, including the Harvard Fire Protection District and REACT Helicopter, responded promptly to the incident. The crash remains under close investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit, who are yet to release further details on the circumstances leading up to the collision.
