A grizzly incident in southwest Las Vegas has led to the demise of a 62-year-old woman and the arrest of a 21-year-old man following a hit-and-run. The accident occurred yesterday night around 9:20 p.m., as reported by News3LV. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police determined that a BMW M4 was traveling westbound on West Maule Avenue when the pedestrian was struck. She was crossing east of Pearland Street, near the intersection with Fort Apache and Sunset roads.
The victim was transported to UMC Trauma where she was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival. This tragedy marks a solemn milestone as the 100th traffic-related fatality in the jurisdiction of the LVMPD for 2024, as stated by a FOX5 Vegas release. The BMW involved did not stop after the impact, continuing its journey westward, an action leading to the subsequent arrest of the driver.
The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Ali Khar, reportedly returned to the scene later and directed officers to the whereabouts of his vehicle. LVMPD officers have indicated that Khar did not show signs of impairment at the time of his arrest. Khar was taken into custody on suspicion of leaving the scene of a crash involving injury or death.
The investigation into the crash is still ongoing, being handled by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section. The identity of the deceased woman has not been released, as the authorities are likely still in the process of notifying next of kin.
