Authorities are currently investigating a fatal accident that occurred on Memorial Drive this past Wednesday evening. The crash took place at around 9:45 p.m., at the 7400 block of Memorial Drive, and claimed the life of a 62-year-old woman, whose name has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
The City of Houston reports that the woman was behind the wheel of a black Ford Explorer when the vehicle collided with a disabled, unoccupied white trailer that was obstructing a traffic lane. The aftermath of the accident prompted a response from the Houston Fire Department paramedics, who upon arrival, pronounced the woman deceased at the scene.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division's Sergeant D. Griffiths and Officer T. Smith are spearheading the investigation. As it progresses, law enforcement will further seek to understand the circumstances leading up to the tragic event, including why the trailer was left unattended in an area of potential danger to passing motorists.
