In Navajo County, a 9-year-old girl has lost her life following a harrowing attack by her family's dogs in Overgaard, Arizona. This event unfolded around 6:30 p.m. on Friday, August 9, as reported by both FOX 10 Phoenix and ABC 15 Arizona.

The young girl was apparently playing outside her home in Aripine, where she went to turn off a water spigot, at which time the canines, described as family pets that were well-acquainted with the girl and her relatives, inexplicably turned violent and inflicted fatal injuries upon her. The family members were present at the time of the incident and tried to provide immediate medical aid to their loved one. Despite her family’s efforts to help, she did not survive, according to ABC 15 Arizona.

Law enforcement officials, including the Navajo County Sheriff's Office-Criminal Investigation Unit and Navajo County Animal Control, are currently investigating the incident, to determine the factors that might have contributed to such an unexpected attack by the family-raised Cane Corso dogs, these details coming from the sheriff's office which has further refrained from releasing more information.

Navajo County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Brian Swanty expressed deep sympathy, stating to FOX 10 Phoenix, "Our hearts just pour out for this family, not only here in the headquarters at the Navajo County Sheriff's Office, but the guys who work on the street that responded to this. This is not the type of call that anybody ever wants to be involved in,” he says that the dogs have now been seized and will undergo examination as part of the ongoing investigation. Moreover, they will likely not be returned to the family.
