Early this morning, a routine outing at a Houston AMC theater escalated into a violent confrontation, resulting in one person being shot. The incident occurred outside the AMC Willowbrook 24 on Tomball Parkway around 12:04 a.m., as reported by FOX 26 Houston. According to the Houston Police Department, what began as an argument over a missing cellphone led to gunfire, leaving the victim critically wounded.
The group of five friends had initially gone to watch a movie, among them was a man described as "the new guy" by members of the group. A misplaced phone set off a series of events leading up to the altercation. As mentioned in the ABC13 report, Lt. R. Willkens indicated "There was some kind of heated exchange inside the movie theater. I'm guessing maybe accusations that someone stole the phone. But evidently someone didn't steal the phone, because the phone was found."
The situation deteriorated outside the theater where two men from the group got into a confrontation, and, soon after, shots were fired. The details of the exchange leading up to the shooting remain unclear as police continue to investigate the circumstances. The victim, having been shot at least once in the abdomen, was rushed to the hospital for surgery. His condition has not been publicly updated following the procedure.
Following the shooting, the suspect fled the scene with a woman in a black SUV, which witnesses described as possibly a Jeep. Houston police have stated that, while the suspect and the woman are currently unidentified, they believe they know who they are and are asking them to come forward to provide their account of the incident. The authorities urge anyone with information to get in touch and assist with the ongoing investigation.
