An Arizona man is grappling with the loss of his sister's cremated remains, which he says went missing after being shipped through the United States Postal Service (USPS). Bob Severson had mailed packages containing precious items, including his sister Joie Severson's remains, to their nephew, a sister, and a man in northern Wisconsin, only to find out that the package meant for Wisconsin never arrived. AZFamily reported that Bob said, "Three packages, two of them made it, and the most important one didn’t."
In an incident saddening in Arizona, as they battled a mobile home blaze in Tempe, firefighters found the bodies of a child and an adult inside the residence. The fire occurred yesterday evening near Baseline and Kyrene roads, with Tempe Fire and Police responding just before midnight. Apart from the two fatalities, three other individuals are in critical condition at the hospital. No other injuries were reported from the scene, where the fire was confined, and the investigation into the cause is ongoing, according to KOLD News 13.
Regarding the missing remains, a USPS spokesperson stated an initial review suggested that "the urn separated from the box at some point from the initial drop-off in Arizona to the final destination in Wisconsin." Bob ensured the urn was packaged in a sturdy box before mailing it to the man in Wisconsin, reinforcing it with tape in hopes it would safely deliver its contents. USPS representatives are reportedly now on a search to reunite the urn with its intended recipient. Bob, trying to retain optimism, told AZFamily, "I mean, I got to have some hope, and you know I’ve got to hold on to that."
Meanwhile, investigations led to control the fire, authorities reported the fire only affected one structure in the Tempe mobile home park. The identities and causes of death for the two victims have yet to be confirmed, with updates expected as investigators continue to piece together the series of events leading up to the fire.
