In a move to forge paths in technology for the younger generation, the City of Arlington's Information Technology Department has teamed up with Mansfield ISD’s Ben Barber Innovation Academy, providing internships to four high school seniors. According to the City of Arlington, this partnership offers students a chance to work alongside professionals and gain experience in a field that is ever more entwined with our lives.
The initiative, operating within the 2023-2024 school year, allowed the interns to immerse themselves in a professional environment where they could see firsthand the potential career paths in the STEM sectors. As the City of Arlington places a high value on incorporating technology into its various departments, the interns had a unique opportunity to contribute to a government setting that is rich with interdisciplinary projects, the newsletter revealed.
Highlights in this quarter's digital edition include a detailed overview of the City's 2024 Pavement Survey, covering all public streets in Central Arlington, along with a focus on citizen safety during the July 4th celebrations. The edition showcases Arlington City's innovative approach to service delivery, featuring a pilot project using autonomous ground robots and uncrewed aircraft for nonperishable food delivery. Additionally, there’s a section on "Social Media by the Numbers" and some standout IT projects that the city is proud of.
