Arlington is calling for community-minded volunteers to shape the future of its International Corridor. The diverse city has announced the formation of a new steering committee aimed at implementing a vision for the area known for its blend of cultures and bustling commerce. The newly created International Corridor Implementation Steering Committee will play a pivotal role in actualizing recommended improvements, including better lighting, increased walkability, and the enhancement of local aesthetics and identity.

The committee will be comprised of 19 members, and the city is reaching out to those who live, own property, or operate businesses within the International Corridor. According to the City of Arlington, volunteers with a vested interest in the corridor's development are especially encouraged to apply. However, all interested citizens are welcome. The aim is to make this thriving area even more welcoming and prosperous.

This involvement comes at no cost but promises immense value to the East Arlington neighborhood, which is home to more than 1,100 diverse businesses. City Council had previously voted on Tuesday to establish the citizen-led group, underpinning their commitment to the International Corridor Vision, adopted back in 2023. A document which can be found on the city's website, details the blueprint for the corridor's evolution.

Applications are open until Sept. 30 and can be accessed through the city's call to action. Eligibility requirements and further details about applying can be found on the City of Arlington's website. Volunteers will be officially appointed during a Council meeting on Nov. 12 with bi-monthly meetings scheduled to commence in early 2025.
