Local Columbus residents were shaken by a brazen act of violence when an armed suspect robbed the Get Go gas station on Hayden Rd. The incident, which unfolded on the night of August 18, saw the suspect employing a handgun to intimidate two clerks into compliance before making away with an undisclosed sum of cash. This unsettling crime was reported just before the clock struck ten in the evening, as the Columbus Police Department highlighted in a media release.
The official report, available on the city's website, details the sequence of events, which began harmlessly enough with the suspect requesting cigarettes. However, the atmosphere soon turned grave when he revealed a handgun and forced both clerks to the ground. Despite the demanded money being handed over, the perpetrator found the safe an unyielding fortress, bereft of treasures, as the staff could not open it. With his take in tow, he directed the victimized clerks into a back room and vanished into the anonymity of the night.
Described as a black male between 30 and 40 years old and with an unremarkable height of 5'4", the suspect carried a weight that would seem inconsequential if not for the dangerous edge that his armed presence brought to the forefront. His attire, consisting of a purple hoody, green pants, white shoes, and a blue baseball cap embellished with the Nike symbol, did little to conceal his threatening demeanor.
