An Athens man, identified as Daniel Lance Buis, faces multiple charges following a substantial drug bust that resulted in the seizure of methamphetamine, a trove of firearms, explosive devices, and significant amounts of cash, as detailed by Monroe County Sheriff Tommy Jones. WVLT states that authorities, including the 10th Judicial Drug Task Force and local police departments, executed a search warrant at Buis’s residence in the 200 block of Kenneth Street and his Athens storage unit last Wednesday.
In a visual post, Sheriff Tommy Jones explained that during the raid, approximately 540 grams of methamphetamine, 41 firearms – with four confirmed as stolen, three improvised explosive devices, over $40,000, and diverse drug paraphernalia were discovered. These results mark the culmination of coordination between multiple agencies, reflecting a larger battle against the illicit drug trade gripping parts of Tennessee.
The gravity of the find is punctuated by the arsenal uncovered – a staggering 41 firearms, intensifying the already alarming presence of the methamphetamine. The inclusion of explosive devices adds a particularly dangerous layer to criminal activity, raising concerns over the potential for broader harm. As WATE reports, these factors combined to signal a sizable operation with a monetary haul that underscores the scale of this shadow economy.
After the raid, Buis was charged by the 10th Judicial Drug Task Force on several counts, including possession of methamphetamine for resale greater than 300 grams and unlawful possession of a firearm. Charges also comprised possession of an improvised explosive device and maintaining a drug dwelling.
