An Atlanta mother grieving the death of her daughter, struck by a suspected street racer, is making a heartfelt plea for justice. Della Reeves, amid tears, called on those with knowledge of the incident to step forward, as reported by FOX5 Atlanta. "I can't even imagine how you can live with yourself," she said at a recent press conference.
Her daughter, Shantea Reeves, was walking on I-20 early on August 4 when she was struck by one of two vehicles believed to be street racing, scattering her body across the interstate. The Atlanta Police Department is urgently seeking to identify the culprits, asking the public for help. One of the vehicles is thought to be a Lexus from between 2001 and 2015. A video released by the police shows both vehicles speeding recklessly, avoiding other cars before one hit Shantea, who was on the shoulder.
During the news conference, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Timothy Zbikowski, an investigator, stated, "The vehicle in the far right lane then tries to evade a truck in front of them before striking Reeves." The impact was so severe that Shantea was sent into the middle of the road, where she was likely hit by other unsuspecting vehicles.
Della Reeves has been left to grapple with the wrenching loss of her daughter, who was a mother herself to an 11-year-old girl. The family's sorrow is to increasingly bear as they prepare to care for Shantea's daughter and arrange her funeral. A GoFundMe campaign has been swiftly established to ease the financial strain on the family, already surpassing $13,000. "I always help people all the time," Reeves implored. "I'm just asking, please, to help me," as noted by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
