Atlanta police officers responded to a shooting call at 102 Ollie St. NW shortly after 10:20 a.m., arriving to find the man wounded and a gun-carrying suspect already in custody.
The wounded man was alert, conscious and breathing when he was loaded into an ambulance and taken to the hospital, according to police cited by WSB-TV. He told investigators he had been in an argument with other people before the shooting. Officers detained a man who was carrying a gun, and K-9 units and crime scene technicians collected the weapon along with additional evidence as they inspected the location.
Real-time public safety alerts from the Citizen app added tactical detail to the scene, indicating the victim was shot in the leg before seeking shelter at a nearby house, and that officers detained an armed suspect connected to a Dodge Durango, according to Citizen. Police have said the incident remains under investigation, and it is not yet clear whether the detained man will face charges.

The shooting unfolded at 102 Ollie St. NW, the site of the Washington Park Pavilion and Natatorium, a city-owned facility that includes an indoor aquatic center, a 150-person pavilion and community event spaces, according to the City of Atlanta Department of Parks and Recreation. It sits directly across from Washington Park, which was created in 1919 as Atlanta's first public recreational park for Black residents during the Jim Crow segregation era, per the Atlanta Beltline.
This is not the first time gunfire has struck this exact address. On May 11, 2023, 17-year-old Devon Mitchell was shot at 102 Ollie St. NW and later died on May 20, 2023, according to Rough Draft Atlanta. Weeks later, on June 9, 2023, Atlanta Police Zone 1 officers investigated another gunshot incident tied to the same address after a 22-year-old victim was driven to Emory Hospital in a private vehicle, per Atlanta Police Department records. Hoodline also reported on a June 2026 investigation into gunfire at a residence on Ollie Street near the park, part of a pattern of violence that kept climbing that month.
Zone 1 Crime Trends Cut Both Ways
Saturday's shooting falls within Atlanta Police Department Zone 1, where department statistics from early 2025 showed overall crime fell 12% even as aggravated assaults surged 71% year-over-year, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. More recently, Atlanta police reported in March that citywide homicides dropped nearly 50% compared to early 2025, though officials noted violent arguments remain a leading contributor to aggravated assault cases across the city, per 11Alive.
Under Georgia law, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon is a felony carrying a prison sentence of one to 20 years, per O.C.G.A. § 16-5-21.
