The streets of Atlanta witnessed a notable arrest when Randy Baugh, labeled as one of Atlanta's Top 10 most wanted fugitives, was apprehended on a MARTA bus. This event unfolded on Cascade Road last Thursday, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. Baugh, wanted for two cold case sex crimes dating back to the late '80s, had been on the lam since escaping custody shortly after his initial arrest in November 2023.
Acting on a tip, the Atlanta police, together with the MARTA Police Department, halted the bus Baugh was on. Despite his attempt to mislead them by identifying himself as "Randy Jackson," officers, who had already positively identified him via surveillance, swiftly apprehended him. During the bus stop, one officer instructed the suspect, "Stand up for me," as seen in the bodycam footage obtained by FOX 5 Atlanta.
Fox 5 Atlanta reported that in the bodycam footage, Baugh can be heard telling officers his name was "Randy Jackson," although police say his identity was confirmed prior to this interaction. Baugh's initial escape, which set this manhunt in motion, happened after he was transported to Grady Detention, according to the same report.
The video released by the Atlanta Police Department captures the tense moments as officers confront Baugh on the public transit. "I got him," announced an officer, according to FOX 5 Atlanta, having quickly located Baugh, placed in custody back at Grady Detention Center. The details of his capture were further outlined by 11Alive, highlighting the coordinated effort by multiple law enforcement bodies.
The successful capture of Baugh has ended a nearly year-long search, providing a stark reminder of the long arm of the law. His return to custody also brings a renewed focus on the cold cases attributed to him from the '80s. With Baugh now detained, law enforcement hopes to close a chapter that has remained open for over three decades, as reported by both FOX 5 Atlanta and 11Alive.
