A fatal shooting occurred late Sunday night at the Arts Center MARTA Station in Atlanta, as reported by FOX 5. An on-duty officer with the MARTA Police Department heard gunshots in the station's bus loop, around 9 p.m., which led to the discovery of a victim who was subsequently transported to a local hospital and pronounced dead.
MARTA police have not disclosed the identity of the deceased, nor have investigators provided insight into the circumstances that precipitated the violence. The search for the suspect who perpetrated the shooting is ongoing, MARTA officials, however, have yet to describe the gunman or any potential leads.
The incident has left local commuters shaken, as Atlanta News First conveyed through the words of Jenny Pierre, a MARTA passenger. "It's scary, honestly, because in this area diversity is a big deal," Pierre told Atlanta News First. She continued, "You've got so many different cultures that come through here, that live nearby, that go to school nearby, the camp, the museum, everything, so we don't expect it. We really don't."
