
Authorities in Attleboro are on the lookout for a suspect involved in an attempted armed robbery which escalated into arson last night at the Lucky Lotto convenience store on Washington Street. As reported by WHDH, the male suspect threatened to rob the store, armed with a clear glass beer bottle filled with a flammable liquid. When the clerk refused to comply with his demands for money, the confrontation took a dangerous turn.
The suspect is said to have attempted to quickly and recklessly start a fire by emptying the contents of the bottle onto a rug near the entrance and igniting the substance with a lighter. According to NBC Boston, after failing to get the money, he fled the scene, last seen running toward the border with Pawtucket, Rhode Island. The store clerk was able to successfully extinguish the fire before it spread.
The Attleboro Police Department has released a description of the suspect, urging the public to come forward with any leads. As stated by the Boston Globe, the man is described as being around 6 feet, 3 inches tall, with a medium build, wearing a black face mask, and a hooded sweatshirt adorned with a white "Jordan" logo, paired with black pants that feature distinctive white markings and black and white sneakers. He was also carrying a small black backpack during the time of the incident.
