
A disturbing scene unfolded in Aurora when a Cherry Creek School District bus driver was assaulted following an altercation with a student on Wednesday afternoon, authorities report. According to 9NEWS, police responded to a call around 4:15 p.m. near South Kittredge Street and South Mission Parkway, where a middle school bus had experienced a mechanical breakdown, this is when the driver and a student got into an altercation, which escalated after the driver grabbed the student amidst difficulty opening the bus doors.
Further complicating matters, a woman arrived at the scene shortly thereafter and proceeded to assault the bus driver, the district spokesperson Lauren Snell asserts that an investigation is underway, as detailed by the Denver Post. The severity of the driver’s injuries was deemed minor and hospital transport was deemed unnecessary. Meanwhile, the woman fled with the student in a vehicle before law enforcement could intervene.
The driver, while not hospitalized, did suffer injuries in the confrontation, as noted by KDVR. Following the incident, a substitute bus arrived to continue transporting the remaining students on their intended route. The woman and student involved are reportedly at large, although the police pursuit for answers and accountability remains ongoing with the investigation still active.
