The Austin Police Department is actively searching for multiple persons of interest following an incident of aggravated assault that left one man with a gunshot wound. The assault took place in the bustle of downtown Austin's entertainment district on East 7th and Trinity streets, in the early hours of Sunday, August 4, at about 2:24 a.m., as per a statement from APD.
In response to the shooting, officers who were on duty near the 600 block of Trinity Street heard the sound of gunfire and quickly intervened. The victim, an unidentified male, was found with a wound from the gun and received medical attention from Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services before being taken to the hospital for continued treatment.
Investigators discovered that the shooting followed a large disturbance involving multiple individuals. The violent skirmish is believed to be directly linked to the gunshot event. Detectives have since been gathering evidence and canvassing the scene, while also appealing to the community for assistance in identifying the involved parties through surveillance images and other potential video recordings.
Authorities urge anyone with information about the incident to step forward. Tips can be directed to APD's Aggravated Assault Unit or submitted anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program. APD has shared images of the persons of interest on its YouTube channel and believes there may be additional valuable footage from bystanders that could assist in identification. According to APD's request, those with relevant information could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if it leads to an arrest.
