The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is currently investigating a tragic incident that occurred Friday morning in the South End neighborhood of Charlotte where a woman was fatally struck by a train. The incident reportedly took place just after 9:15 a.m. on West Summit Avenue near South Clarkson Street. Upon arrival, police discovered Midiana Marrero, 36, unresponsive beside the railroad tracks. According to WBTV, officers at the scene pronounced her dead.
Further details provided by QC News indicate that the accident happened in the 600 block of W. Summit Ave. A preliminary investigation suggests Marrero was walking on the railroad tracks when the train hit her. The train company, as well as local authorities, are looking into why she was on the tracks at that time. Her family has been notified of her death as the community grapples with the loss.
