Baltimore City Assistant Sheriff and Legal Advisor Nicholas Blendy was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) in Ocean City, with the incident occurring early Thursday morning. According to FOX Baltimore, after dealing with a separate traffic stop shortly after 2 a.m., an officer noticed a vehicle, driven by Blendy, exceeding the speed limit and moving erratically between lanes.
Upon conducting the traffic stop, Blendy admitted to having consumed alcohol prior to driving. The officer stated, as reported by FOX Baltimore, "the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage upon Blendy's breath and person," alongside noting Blendy's eyes were bloodshot and glassy, and his speech slurred. Failing multiple field sobriety tests, Blendy was then arrested, with the officer finding an open can of beer in the car. Released on his own recognizance, Blendy is currently awaiting a mid-September court date in Worcester County District Court.
In a report by WBALTV, the Ocean City Police Department confirmed that the assistant sheriff registered 47 miles per hour in a 35-mile-per-hour zone and was found in possession of an open container of National Bohemian beer. The exact time of the arrest was noted as approximately 2:05 a.m. along Coastal Highway.
The Baltimore City Sheriff's Office confirmed that Blendy is still an employee but declined to comment further due to ongoing legal proceedings.
