The Pima County Parks & Recreation, in partnership with the University of Arizona, is offering a complimentary crash course in guns and gun safety. To educate novice shooters, the parks department's Community Engagement Coordinator Callie Norton announced that the "First Shots" program scheduled for Saturday, aims to teach the basics of responsible gun handling and shooting techniques.
The instruction session is a result of a collaboration involving the WildGats–UofA's nationally ranked shooting team–and the Pima County Shooting Sports Program, along with the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the program will be hosted at the Southeast Regional Park Shooting Range situated on Harrison Road. According to the original announcement, certified instructors, including national champion marksmen, will be on hand to share their knowledge and skills.
"Attendees will gain insights from experienced shooters and have the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a controlled environment," Norton said, as per the Pima County Parks & Recreation news release. The classes are set to begin at three separate timings: 8:30 A.M., 10:00 A.M., and 11:30 A.M. Attendees do not need to worry about gear as handguns, rifles, and other necessary equipment will be provided at no cost.
Those interested in this free educational opportunity can register starting August 24, spaces are limited, sparking a recommendation for proactive registration. Beyond "First Shots," the Pima County Shooting Sports Program runs various ranges including two for pistols and rifles, outdoor archery ranges, and a center dedicated to clay target practices.
