The weather has largely undisturbed the daily routines in the Bay Area, with "deja vu" conditions expected. According to the National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area, today, the region will experience temperatures like yesterday's, with only maybe a tad cooler in the warmest areas.
Despite the unremarkable weather pattern, there's a bit of nuance for mariners and flyers to note. Gusty northwest winds will be the order of the day along the coast. Mariners should know that the Small Craft Advisory, currently in effect until Friday afternoon for certain areas, specifies increased winds and rough waters. It seems that, for now, the most variable element in our fair region's near future is the wind.
Looking further ahead, the weekend and early next week don’t promise much change. In what's becoming an almost monotonous pattern, a persistent trough off the coast will maintain the cool onshore flow and a deeper marine layer. For coastal dwellers, drizzle is on the cards for Friday night into Saturday morning. As for the rest, little change in the longer-term forecast was posited by the NWS San Francisco Bay Area.
The aviation outlook provided by the NWS suggests mostly clear skies for most of the Bay Area, except for the Monterey Bay terminals, which have been toying with bouts of stratus clouds trying to make their way inland. However, VFR (visual flight rules) conditions are anticipated to reign through the TAF period so that pilots will have good visibility. Regarding winds, moderate to gusty conditions are expected in the afternoon, which is not for this time of the year.
