Bedford Police Officer Fires on Suspect After High-Speed Chase Ends in Maple HeightsSource: Google Street View

Chaos unfolded in Maple Heights yesterday afternoon when Bedford Police were involved in a high-speed chase with a stolen vehicle. The pursuit, which began around 3 p.m., ended dramatically with shots fired by a Bedford officer and one suspect injured. As reported by News5Cleveland, the chase originated on Broadway Avenue in Bedford and subsequently barrelled into Maple Heights, with the driver aggressively hitting at least one uninvolved vehicle.

A Bedford Officer utilized a Pursuit Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver near Broadway Avenue and Clement Avenue to halt the fleeing vehicle. According to Maple Heights Police Chief Todd Hansen, as stated to WKYC, the maneuver rendered the car immobile, at which point two armed individuals exited the vehicle, prompting an officer to discharge their weapon.

One 21-year-old male suspect was struck and sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the encounter, and he was subsequently transported to MetroHealth Medical Center. His accomplice attempted to evade the police but was later apprehended by Maple Heights officers. With both suspects now in custody, two firearms were recovered at the scene, and the vehicle involved was confirmed to be stolen out of Michigan, News5Cleveland detailed.

Further complicating the aftermath of the chase, Chief Hansen suggested the suspects' involvement in other criminal activities in the Cleveland area. "We're looking into that. We already have some information that they're involved in some other crimes in the Cleveland area, that this is a criminal ring, basically, and they're doing a lot of other things that they shouldn't be doing," Hansen told News5Cleveland. While Bedford and Maple Heights Police Departments will look into these allegations, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation has been called in to examine the shooting incident.

Anyone with relevant information is urged to reach out to the Maple Heights Police Department's detective bureau, as reported by Cleveland19. The investigation into this high-stakes chase and subsequent shooting is ongoing, and authorities are calling for community assistance to provide any additional insights into the case.
