The Bexar County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) is urgently soliciting aid from the community after a 17-year-old boy was fatally shot at a house party in west Bexar County. As reported by KSAT, the incident unfolded around 1 a.m. on Sunday in the 3900 block of Rock Mill Dam where deputies, responding to 911 calls about multiple gunshots, arrived to a scene of partygoers dispersing and the victim, identified as Landyn Reyes, dead from a gunshot wound.
According to areas identified by Sheriff Javier Salazar, as detailed in a statement obtained by Fox San Antonio, this tragic shooting may be part of a growing trend where teenagers utilize vacant homes for impromptu gatherings. These homes, often newly constructed and not yet occupied, become known party locales via social media organization.
Sheriff Salazar expressed serious concern at a press conference shown by Fox San Antonio, where a video was displayed highlighting the chaotic scene at a similar party that night. In the footage, numerous attendees flaunted high-caliber firearms amidst the revelry. “That right there is a recipe for disaster. Just a whole bunch of young people drinking, probably using narcotics, and as you can see in the video - waving handguns and riffles around,” Salazar stated.
The BCSO has found it challenging to identify a shooter as the party was attended by at least 100 individuals. Neighbors, such as Cathrine Morales who resides near the vacant properties, have voiced concerns about the uptick in such events and are calling for increased security measures to prevent further tragedies. "It makes me want to pressure the Homeowners Association and Lennar even more to crack down on security because they still have so many more houses to build here," Morales told KSAT.
BCSO continues to appeal for the public's assistance in gathering information on the shooting. Individuals with insights or evidence about the incident are encouraged to reach out to BCSO at 210-335-6000 or contact Crime Stoppers at 210-224-STOP with potential leads or tips in the case.
