Early on Thursday morning, Route 8 became the scene of a critical accident involving a bicyclist and a pickup truck near Burchfield Road. The incident, which occurred around 4:50 a.m., forced the closure of part of the thoroughfare for approximately three hours, as reported by WPXI. Authorities found at the scene a bicycle with severe damage to its front wheel, hinting at the collision's intensity.
While Shaler Township police delve into the circumstances leading up to the crash, the bicyclist, a man whose identity has yet to be disclosed, remains in critical condition. Caught in the early hours, as the man was crossing Route 8, the truck collided with him. According to WTAE, the area affected included the intersection of Route 8 and Butler Plank Road, with Route 8 northbound at Spencer Lane and Spencer Lane Extension experiencing shutdown.
The driver of the vehicle involved in the accident remained on the scene, cooperating with the authorities in the investigation. Shaler Police Chief Sean Frank stressed the ongoing nature of the probe to determine what led to the regrettable event.
