A Blaine man's arrest followed a seven-hour standoff with Whatcom County Sheriff's deputies, ending last Friday after allegations of domestic violence were levied against him. Tristen Alexander, 35, now faces multiple charges ranging from burglary and harassment to unlawful imprisonment and assault. According to the KIRO 7 report, this incident began on August 2 when deputies received a report of an alleged assault involving Alexander and an acquaintance.
When authorities attempted to engage Alexander at his residence, a wall of silence met them instead of cooperation, leading to the activation of SWAT and crisis negotiators. The sheriff's office had gained probable cause to levy charges following Alexander's alleged violation of a no-contact order, where, driving near the victim's home and workplace, he became increasingly unwelcome. His earlier arrest, as acquired from the Bellingham Herald, came after he reportedly sent a threatening photo to the victim on May 30.
Released on July 22, Alexander was instructed by law not to contact the person in question. Ignoring this, the KPUG 1170 article details that violations included multiple unwanted texts and sightings of Alexander's car. This heightened to the point of forced entry and physical assault by Alexander on July 29, according to the victim's account.
During the standoff, authorities resorted to using less-lethal and chemical options to apprehend Alexander, who was found hiding within his home. Managed by tactical robots provided by Homeland Security Investigations, multiple local agencies aided in the standoff. After sustaining minor injuries, Alexander was treated before being booked into Whatcom County Jail. The ongoing investigation may yield further charges and details as the case progresses, with hints at additional allegations, such as threats to share intimate photos and tampering with testimony, as noted by KIRO 7.
