In a notice to vehicle owners and potential claimants, the City of Bloomington has released an official announcement on the impoundment and potential disposal of several vehicles. The announcement, dated August 28th, lists four specific vehicles that have been towed on different dates and from various locations within the city of Bloomington, Minnesota.
The vehicles listed in the notice include a 2015 Chevrolet Impala, towed on April 20th, a 2007 Dodge Charger, towed from the intersection of Hwy 494 and Hwy 77 on August 17th, a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu, towed on February 11th from 40th St. and Elliot Ave., and a 2005 Cadillac Seville, towed on October 25th; the vehicles are now housed at the Bloomington Impound Lot. Persons who can prove their ownership or hold a lien interest in any of the vehicles are eligible to reclaim them, however, they must first settle any accumulated tow charges, unless they meet specific criteria for free access to their possessions.
Significantly, the city has established a protocol for those in challenging circumstances—those who are homeless, recipients of certain need-based aid, or qualify for legal aid assistance—are entitled to retrieve their belongings from the impounded vehicles at no charge, a consideration that highlights the city's awareness of the economic pressures some individuals face. This policy is an acknowledgment of the multifaceted layers that complicate the simple act of reclaiming property and seeks to provide some form of relief to those caught in the crosshairs of policy and privation.
For vehicle owners who do not come forward to reclaim their property, the notice warns of a waiver of rights to the vehicles and contents after a 45-day period from the date of the notice in accordance with Minn. Stat. 168B.051 and the City of Bloomington’s Legal Department has offered to provide more information to individuals seeking to navigate this process, all inquiries can be directed to the department by calling 952-563-4893.
