The Michigan State Police have confirmed that a body found near Beaver Island in Lake Michigan is that of Kristen Terrien, a 39-year-old woman who had been missing since August 2. Terrien was last sighted near Michibay Beach, adjacent to the Manistique Township Park, before her disappearance. As reported by MLive, the discovery marks a tragic end to the search that included both K-9 and marine teams.
According to the information provided by CBS News Detroit, the body was located on August 9th on the western shore of Beaver Island, and the identification was made using dental records. While an autopsy is still pending to ascertain the cause of death, detectives are actively pursuing ongoing investigations into the case. F/Lt Mike Shaw, MSP Public Information Officer, was quoted stating, "This is not the outcome any of us wanted". Shaw also extended condolences to Terrien's family and community members affected by the tragedy.
News of the discovery has brought a somber realization to the local community and the family of Terrien. Making the trip across Lake Michigan, Terrien's body was found on Beaver Island, over 30 miles from where she was last seen alive.
