Boston is bracing for a wet conclusion to the week as tropical moisture associated with Storm Debby finds its way north. "Rain quickly exits Wednesday morning, with a more optimistically sunny forecast this afternoon," reports NBC Boston. High temperatures won't quite reach the summery ideal, lingering in the upper 60s along the coast to low 70s inland. It's a brief respite from the rain, reflecting a pattern of sunshine and cloud cover that won't last beyond today.
An increase in humidity is expected as the end of the week approaches, with winds shifting south because of Debby. Gusts could reach up to 40 miles per hour at times from late Friday into Saturday. But it's not the wind that's the primary concern. "Rain is the big issue. All up and down the Eastern Seaboard, tropical downpours are wreaking havoc," NBC Boston elaborates. Boston can expect between 1 to 3 inches of rain, though higher amounts are likely further inland.
In light of the pending storm, the National Weather Service has furnished a detailed forecast for the Boston area. Today, Bostonians will see showers likely before noon and a high near 70 degrees, with mostly cloudy skies prevailing. The chance of precipitation stands at a notable 70%, with new precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. The Storm Prediction Center is monitoring for the potential development of severe weather, including the unlikely but not implausible risk of brief spin-up tornadoes in the strongest cells. Even though the risk is low, preparation for sudden weather shifts is often wise.
The weekend forecast suggests more vigorous activity. Saturday is expected to bring showers, which could be heavy at times, with the high near 84 and a chance of precipitation at 90%. As Debby's influence wanes, "A chance of showers before 9pm," is predicted for Saturday night, according to the weather service, transitioning to a partly cloudy night with a cooler low around 65 degrees. Sunday's outlook is optimistic, promising sunny skies and a high near 82 to round out the tumultuous week.
