Following a disturbance in Dorchester, Boston police officers apprehended an 18-year-old suspect on various firearm charges. The Boston Police Department reported that Jayden Romao, of Boston, was arrested on Tuesday evening after allegedly being involved in a disturbance near Arcadia Park and Ditson Street.
Officers arrived at the scene around 5:29 PM after receiving reports that a moped had been stolen and the suspect was detained by passersby. The police were informed by the group that the suspect, later identified as Romao, appeared to be armed. Following a brief search, authorities recovered a loaded firearm, which was found discarded in the vicinity. According to the Boston Police Department, the suspect had allegedly stolen a moped and, when confronted, reached for his waistband, prompting the group to restrain him.
The firearm, identified as a Taurus 6x4, was equipped with ammunition and found to have an obliterated serial number. It contained one round in the chamber, along with six rounds in the magazine, which had a capacity to hold up to thirteen rounds.
Romao is facing charges that include Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, the possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, and Defacement of a Firearm Serial Number. He is slated to be arraigned at the Dorchester District Court. Details of the incident, which point to the broader issue of illegal firearms circulating within the community, underscore the persistent challenges law enforcement faces in mitigating gun violence and its ramifications on public safety.
