If you're in the Boulder area and playing the solemn song of the caregiver for a loved one with dementia, there's a training session in the offing that may speak to your very core. "Living with Dementia: Insights and Strategies for the Caregiver" is set to empower those who spend their days nurturing the minds fading before them. This half-day course is being offered jointly by the Boulder County Area Agency on Aging, Academy Boulder, and Dementia Together, as per Boulder County.
The session focused on equipping caregivers with an understanding of dementia and strategies to improve well-being, is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 18 from 1 to 5 p.m. The folks from the Boulder County Area Agency on Aging say the event will take place at Academy Mapleton Hill, 2435 4th St., Boulder. They're giving you the heads up now, parking can be a beast, so leave extra time to spot a street parking space and hoof it to the building, the warning rings as true as a clarion call.
This isn't only about teaching the ropes, this is about changing lives. During these four precious hours, participants will dive into "simple, counter-intuitive principles and strategies" aimed at creating lifelong well-being, not only for those afflicted with the vagaries of dementia but also for the ones standing steadfastly by their side. It's got the makings of an emotional lifeline, enshrined in academia's embrace.
