An incident unfolded in northeast Houston, resulting in the death of a young boy. According to ABC13, the Houston Police Department reported a shooting at around 8:20 p.m. yesterday at an apartment complex located at 6869 Arto St. near Hardy Street. Preliminary reports indicate the boy was shot when relatives, minors themselves, were playing with a firearm. Subsequent to the incident, another individual turned the gun on himself, ultimately requiring hospitalization, his condition remains undisclosed.
Further details provided by KHOU reveal that the minors involved in the incident ranged from 10 to 17 years old, with the shooters — a 17-year-old displaying the weapon and subsequently, another juvenile who fired the gun, striking the victim. The harrowing events culminated in the 17-year-old, described as "distraught," firing several rounds into a wooded area before tragically taking his own life.
Authorities confirm that the victim of the initial shooting is believed to be around 11 years old. He died on the scene before any medical help could arrive. After the shooting, the teen involved fled to a nearby wooded area and discharged the weapon several times, one bullet striking an apartment unit, though not resulting in further injuries. The dual shootings ended with the teen's self-inflicted wound and a subsequent death at the hospital.
While investigations are ongoing, it remains unclear whether the gun was already present in the apartment or if it was brought in by the 17-year-old. Police are continuing to piece together the events that led to this series of events.
