In a city where architectural marvels and urban wildlife often steal the spotlight, it's the winged kind drawing attention this week at the Brookfield Zoo. According to  WGN-TV, the Zoo has announced the hatching of four baby flamingos, with two making their grand entrance into the world on July 26, another following on July 28, and the youngest on August 7.

The gender of the newborn chicks is still up in the air, and for now, they're being nurtured behind the scenes by the zoo's diligent staff. Soon, the fluffy quartet will have their moment in the sun, with a public debut slated for August 19 in the Penguin Encounter room from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m., as per WGN-TV. But don't let their current downy gray plumage fool you, as those feathers will soon blossom into the iconic pink hue flamingos are famous for.

"We are thrilled to welcome more American flamingos to our family of aquatic birds," Cody Hickman, associate director of avian care at the Zoo, shared in a sentiment obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times. The aim is to simulate the naturally large flocks seen in the wild, and with this new batch, they're well on their way to doing just that.
