DeKalb County has witnessed yet another tragedy this week with new details emerging about the double shooting that occurred in a home along Emerald Lake Drive. According to the DeKalb County Police Department, two individuals were found shot in the basement on Monday evening, both of whom were transported to an area hospital but ultimately succumbed to their injuries; the incident has cast yet another shadow over the community, prompting a swift response from law enforcement officials, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta.
The victims have been identified as 21-year-old Broderick Shovely and 17-year-old Santino Shovely, brothers whose lives were cut short by this act of violence. In a rapid sequence of investigative work, detectives managed to trace and arrest two men suspected of the crime, one of whom was reportedly wearing the same clothes as seen during the alleged shooting when officials detained him near the scene. These revelations were brought forward by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The suspects were located approximately 10 miles from the site of the shooting in the Wishing Well Hills neighborhood near Conley and were identified as Charles Kishawn Thorne of Conley and Nickolas Povilaitis of Norcross. They have since been arrested and each charged with two counts of murder and two counts of criminal attempt to commit a felony, according to police statements.
In the aftermath, a GoFundMe page has been established to assist the family of the slain brothers with expenses during this harrowing time, having raised over $4,600 as of Thursday morning, "No amount help is too big or too small, and all of it is deeply appreciated," organizer Leslie Woods wrote on the fundraising page, as noted by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
