The City of Carrollton has recently embarked on a novel approach to medical emergencies, announcing its partnership with Avive Solutions, Inc. to usher the 4 Minute City™ Program into existence. This innovative program is designed to ensure that a CPR-trained volunteer equipped with an Avive Connect AED™ can reach any sudden cardiac arrest victim within Carrollton in four minutes or less, following a notification from emergency dispatchers.
According to details shared by the City of Carrollton, the program aims to strategically position AEDs throughout the community, equipped with technology that allows for instantaneous communication with the North Texas Emergency Communications Center. “During a cardiac event, every second is critical," stated Carrollton Fire Chief Michael Thomson, acknowledging the importance of swift intervention in increasing the odds of survival for those experiencing a cardiac arrest.
Cardiac arrest remains a leading cause of premature death, claiming over 100 lives yearly in Carrollton alone. Participants in the 4 Minute City™ Program, now actively seeking volunteers under the Cardiac Arrest Rapid Engagement (CARE) Team initiative, will be trained in CPR and provided with their own Avive Connect AED, a state-of-the-art device featuring GPS and bi-directional communication capabilities.
The City of Carrollton elaborates on the eligibility criteria for CARE Team hopefuls, which include being a Carrollton resident, at least 18 years of age, willing to attend initial and ongoing training, and passing a criminal background check. The Metrocrest Hospital Authority has stepped in to provide financial backing for the program, identifying Avive Solutions, Inc. as the sole provider for the advanced AED units. The pioneering program was unanimously supported by the Carrollton City Council and is hailed by local officials as a significant stride toward cementing Carrollton's position as one of the safest locales to live and work.
