Residents of Minneapolis's Bryn Mawr neighborhood can expect to see a flurry of activity on their streets, as CenterPoint Energy and its authorized contractor, Michels Corporation, work on updating the local natural gas infrastructure. The effort involves moving indoor meters outside and either replacing or reconnecting service lines to the newly installed mains, as reported by CenterPoint Energy, Minnesota.

Early this week, an update was provided about the main replacements, which has now shifted to the specific details of the service line and meter work. According to a notification from CenterPoint Energy, one crew has been making headway on Penn Avenue S. between Mount View Avenue and Chestnut Avenue W. Their work is expected to continue until mid-September, with parking restrictions and one sidewalk closure at a time to accommodate the construction.

To add, from Thursday, August 29, two new crews have joined the ranks, tackling Upton Avenue S. and Thomas Avenue S., starting from Chestnut Avenue W. and progressing south. These sections will see similar disruptions, with parking on both sides of the roads closed from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Nonetheless, two-way traffic is being maintained, ensuring a semblance of normality in the bustling residential area.

As for what locals can expect, CenterPoint Energy will send out postcards in advance to homes within the work zones. These alerts will precede visits from technicians—who, bearing official ID tags—will coordinate with residents to schedule the necessary work. "The customer will receive a CenterPoint Energy postcard in the mail before the natural gas crews perform the work," the company detailed on their bulletin. Service line work varies, with some properties requiring sidewalk panel removal and targeted excavation to securely connect gas lines to the outdoor meters.
