In a recent unfolding of events, the Ceres Police Department has reported a severe traffic incident leading to an arrest. On the evening of August 23, the authorities stopped a vehicle linked to a hit-and-run case that had occurred earlier that day. According to the Ceres Police Department's Facebook post, 73-year-old Gilbert Taveres of Ceres was arrested and faces felony hit-and-run charges after the incident on the Pine Street overpass took a male victim's life. The property damage ensued from the collision, matched thereafter with Taveres' vehicle.
The 74-year-old male victim, whose identity remains withheld pending family notification, sadly succumbed to his injuries. His passing marks a tragic endpoint to the day's earlier events. The Ceres Police Department are now actively seeking witnesses. They are urging anyone with potentially helpful information, especially those owning nearby businesses, to assist by sharing security camera footage that may illuminate the circumstances of the collision.
