In a move that’s setting a new standard for police welfare, Chandler City Council has given the green light to a significant mental health service agreement. According to a report from Chandler's official news center, the council has approved a one-year deal, capping at $150,000, with Crisis Preparation and Recovery to introduce on-site and telehealth mental health clinician services for the Chandler Police Department.
The fresh contract includes an embedded clinician aimed at enhancing the wellness of the department’s staff, with multiple services outlined. Among them are annual wellness checks, consistent counseling sessions, medication management, and comprehensive training focused on mental health. Additionally, these clinicians will provide assessments ,and support in the wake of critical incidents involving police work, as detailed in the city’s release.
There’s a steadily growing recognition of the mental health toll on law enforcement officers. Chandler’s latest measure underscores a commitment to addressing this often-overlooked aspect of police work. Last year, Chandler City Council had already displayed its dedication to the well-being of its officers. It had signed off an agreement with Sigma Tactical Wellness, which focuses on the early detection of heart disease and similar health conditions for the police force through voluntary screenings.
