Monwazee Raymon Boston, a 32-year-old Charlotte resident, has been handed a five-year prison sentence for the illegal possession of a loaded firearm complete with an extended magazine. This was followed by a declaration of a subsequent three-year supervised release, as announced by U.S. Attorney Dena J. King for the Western District of North Carolina.

Boston was apprehended after ATF and Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department officers, observing an area notorious for drug and firearm violations, spotted an extended magazine protruding from his attire. Having left the scene in a car, Boston was located and, noticing the officers, fled and concealed himself behind a truck in a driveway, where the officers eventually arrested him according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney's Office. Alongside the apprehension, officers retrieved a Glock pistol with a 30-round extended magazine and discovered 445 methamphetamine pills and almost half a kilogram of marijuana in Boston's vehicle.

The court records revealed Boston's 2011 conviction on drug trafficking and firearm offenses in South Carolina. Serving federal supervised release for those charges, he once again contravened the law with the possession of the aforementioned firearm. On May 1, 2023, Boston pled guilty to the firearm possession charge as a felon and was confined in federal custody, awaiting a transfer to a federal prison.

In a statement accompanying today’s sentencing, U.S. Attorney King acknowledged the ATF and CMPD's collaborative effort in the investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Alfredo De La Rosa, contributing to the larger initiative of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) – a program that unites community service organizations and law enforcement agencies to reduce violent crime and gun violence ensuring neighborhood safety.
