A Chelsea man, identified as 29-year-old Keywan Kelly, has been taken into custody today facing charges related to a series of armed bank robberies across Weymouth, Jamaica Plain, and Hyde Park, according to an announcement from Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy and Jodi Cohen, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Division, reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Detailed in the charges are the incidents, starting with a robbery on July 1, 2024, when Kelly, donning gloves and a medical mask, allegedly entered a Bank of America in Weymouth and delivered a note to the teller demanding $20,000, threatening violence with a firearm, as the note and witnessed threats suggested he would kill you all and during which he managed to take from the teller $15,000 initially and then an additional $4,000 to $5,000, the sequence of events witnessed by bank employees amidst palpable fear.

Following incidents include, the July 16 robbery at Rockland Trust Bank in Jamaica Plain, where Kelly, allegedly concealed by a black mask and gloves, brandished a firearm while handing over a note that warned of bombs and demanding cash without dye packs, an event that ended with a cash handover of approximately $2,480, similarly, another Rockland Trust Bank branch fell victim to Kelly on July 26 in Hyde Park, where he is alleged to have presented another demanding note, pointed a firearm and forcibly took $3,000 in cash.

Evidence collected includes video surveillance footage that allegedly identified Kelly at the scene of the Weymouth robbery and fingerprints from the getaway vehicle, while further investigation connected him with vehicles near the Jamaica Plain and Hyde Park banks at the time of the crimes, cell phone location data supported Kelly's presence at the times of each incident. A collection of evidence pieces that paint a stark portrayal of a series of calculated criminal acts.

Kelly appeared in federal court in Boston today at 2 p.m. He faces up to 25 years in prison, five years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine if convicted of armed bank robbery. These are allegations for now, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
