A recent series of armed robberies have been reported across multiple districts in Chicago, prompting a community alert from the local police department. The incidents described involve two male suspects engaging in theft under the threat of deadly force. The Chicago Police Department's bulletin provided details of the crimes, including the description of the getaway vehicle, a dark blue Land Rover Discovery with Illinois license plate DJ87261, and the appearance of the offenders.
The suspects, identified as two Black males between 5'07" and 5'09" in height, thin, dressed in black with ski masks, were armed with a semi-automatic handgun during each incident, as per the Chicago Police Department. Having approached their targets, they explicitly threatened to kill the victims unless handed over their possessions. Following the robberies, the suspects have been observed fleeing the scene in the previously mentioned Land Rover.
These events occurred at various locations throughout the districts, with the first incident occurring on the 200 block of West 23rd Place on August 19, around 10:30 PM. Subsequent robberies took place on the 300 block of North Morgan Street and the 200 and 100 blocks of West Randolph Street during the early morning hours of August 20 and 21. Each incident has seeds of the victims enduring the terror of a gunpoint confrontation and the loss of personal items such as cell phones and wallets.
The Chicago Police Department has issued advice for community members on how to protect themselves and aid the ongoing investigation. They urge individuals to note any distinguishing features of the suspects and to prioritize personal safety over property. The police also stressed that witnesses should not touch anything at the crime scene and should contact authorities immediately by dialing 9-1-1.
