A Chico man, identified as Samuel Dickerson, 31, has been taken into custody following a disturbing incident involving an alleged stabbing and the attempted kidnapping and sexual assault of a child. As reported by FOX40, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office stated that Dickerson went to a home in Magalia where he apparently knew a child resided and was familiar with the residence.
Upon arrival, Dickerson confronted two adults and reportedly stabbed one immediately. The second adult, who endeavored to defend themselves, got into an altercation with Dickerson. After the confrontation, the assailant fled in his vehicle. The wounded man managed to contact the authorities and receives treatment, which resulted in the subsequent deployment of deputies and officers with the Chico Police Department shortly after.
Further investigations by detectives, as mentioned by Action News Now, revealed that Dickerson was already acquainted with the residents of the home and was cognizant of the presence of a child there. The authorities believe that the suspect's intent was allegedly to kidnap and sexually assault the child.
Joseph Strickland, the husband of the first victim, disclosed in a statement to Action News Now that his wife, the initial victim, was stabbed in the lung and is currently receiving treatment. After fleeing the scene, Dickerson was later located and arrested. He has been booked into the Butte County Jail on felony charges of attempted murder and assault with intent to commit rape.
