The Columbus Division of Police is actively seeking information on the whereabouts of Jaquez Hoover, a suspect in a recent double homicide case. The authorities warned the public not to approach Mr. Hoover, who was considered armed and dangerous. Images of Mr. Hoover from the incident and a prior photo have been released to aid in his identification.
Following the release of surveillance video imagery that captured the events surrounding the crime, Columbus police have issued warrants for Mr. Hoover’s arrest on two counts of murder. He remains at large despite these efforts, according to a media release by the Columbus Division of Police.
The incident occurred in the early hours of June 14. Columbus Police Patrol officers responded to a shooting report on the 200 block of N. 5th Street at about 1:45 AM. Upon arrival, they encountered four victims with gunshot wounds. Two of the victims, Desmond Taylor and Ceilin Richard Peakes Smith, were pronounced deceased shortly after the incident, the former at the scene and the latter after being transported to a local hospital.
In addition to the fatalities, two other adult victims were injured in the shooting but are expected to survive their wounds. The Columbus Fire Department Medic personnel were on the scene, providing aid and transporting the wounded. Next of kin for the deceased has been notified, and investigators continue to piece together the events of that tragic night.
